First Public Event

On the 1st of March 2023, Capt Stanley and then Cpl Zigan participated in the Ohio History Center’s Night at the Museum. This event took inspiration from the 2006 film of the same name. Living historians from around the state came together to “bring the exhibits to life”. Exhibits included westward bound pioneers, French-Canadian fur trappers, 19th Century firefighters, Civilian Conservation Corps, and Civil War/WWI/WWII.

The Midwest Raiders specifically portrayed elements of the 4th Marines on the island of Emirau. At this point in time the regiment had only recently formed out of elements of the Marine Raider Regiment and other units due to the wartime need for more Divisions. The island of Emirau was seized by the new 4th Marines as part of the encirclement of Rabaul. While initially expected to be an opposed landing, Imperial Japanese forces had abandoned the position shortly before the regiment made landfall. Instead of murderous fire, the Marines were instead greeted by friendly locals who had been taught English by Methodist missionaries prior to the war. After landing and consolidating their position, the Regiment used their time to plan and prepare for their first true combat operation: the liberation of Guam.
